2009 Western Regional Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils

This year’s Western Regional Exhibition will be held at the beautiful Howard/Mandville Gallery in Kirkland, Washington, August 8 through August 30, 2009. Located near Seattle, Kirkland is a small, yet sophisticated town, offering many opportunities to explore the beautiful Pacific Northwest area. Situated on the shores of Lake Washington, Kirkland offers many prospects for enjoying aquatic activities and bird watching, as well as viewing the beautiful panorama of the Olympic Mountains.
Please mark you calendars now for the opening reception, which will be held on Saturday evening, August 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The awards reception will take place at approximately 7:00 p.m. A 2 day preview period will take place on August 6 and 7 for collectors, however, no paintings will be sold during this time.
This year’s Western Regional Juror of Awards will be Master Signature member Jeffrey R. Watts. Mr. Watts is widely regarded for his figurative work and will provide a 3 hour painting demonstration on Saturday morning, August 8. In addition, we have a full day of educational events planned including a “Meet the Expert” Q& A session with OPA president Neil Patterson and a presentation by Scott Gellatly of Gamblin Artists Colors on studio safety, environmental concerns and important tips for traveling with your paints. Oil Painters of America is pleased to announce that its 2008 Western Regional Juried Exhibition will be held at Devin Galleries in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, beginning Friday, September 12, 2008, through Saturday, October 11, 2008. Collectors and art lovers are invited to attend the opening reception on Friday, September 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. Paintings will be available for sale at the opening reception and throughout the duration of the exhibition.
In addition, gallery owners Skip and Debbie Peterson are extending an invitation to all OPA members to come and paint some of the beautiful scenery found in and around Coeur d’ Alene on Saturday, September 13, 2008. OPA is very pleased to have California resident and Master Signature artist Steven Lang OPAM serving as this year’s Juror of Awards. In a few short years, the name Steven Lang has become synonymous with fine western art. He has established himself with realistic oil originals and his narratives have become a hallmark of his work and a much-appreciated insight for his collectors.
Total cash awards for this year’s Western Regional are $11,500 including a $4,000 Best of Show.
The public is invited to view and purchase these exceptional works of art throughout the exhibition period. Gallery viewing hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays; 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sundays.

2008 Oil Painters of America National Show

The Oil Painters of America enthusiastically returns to the Dana Gallery in scenic Missoula , Montana for its 17th National Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils, May 2 – June 14, 2008 . Artists, collectors and art enthusiasts will find an unparalleled collection of traditional oil paintings representative of the high quality of work being produced by professional oil painters today. Over two hundred pieces will be offered for sale over the course of the exhibition starting on Friday evening, May 2, 2008.
To kick-off the opening weekend, OPA will host a series of events for artists and collectors beginning with a 3-hour demonstration on Friday morning by this year’s Juror of Awards and Master Signature painter, Ramon Kelley. Mr. Kelley’s especially known for his sensitive character studies and can be found in many of the country’s finest private and public collections including the Seattle Frye Museum and the Santa Fe Museum of Fine Art. In addition to painting, Mr. Kelley is a world class teacher. His work has been featured in 15 art magazines and in two books including his latest: The 5 Essentials in Every Powerful Painting.
